Every May, the networks release their list of cancelled shows. Which one will you miss the most?
Every May, the networks release their list of cancelled shows. On the list may be a new show, the network never gave a chance or a favorite, the network thinks has run its life. CBS has made its CSI decision: CSI: Miami is being cancelled after a rather incredible 10-season run. Some in the industry feel Fox made a mistake not picking up this ambitious drama for a second season, reported Entertainment Weekly. Terra Nova managed the rare feat of delivering a sizable family audience to a broadcast drama, found its legs creatively in its final hours and there was nothing else like it on TV. Cost was a factor, reported Entertainment Weekly. Once top shows like House and Desperate Housewives will air no more, either. Chuck had its series finale…

Vicki Francis of Vicki Francis Photography shares her views of growing her business and her life.
Photography is an artistic expression. A willingness to see the world through color and light and your own personal view of the world. For Vicki Francis, photography is a way of life. “I think I have been a photographer forever,” Francis said. “It has always come very natural to me, but now I want to know more. Everyone has a camera nowadays, and they are regularly snapping away, but I really wanted to learn and master photography and tell stories through my lens.” Francis, a Hopkinton resident, comes from a long line of photographers and inherited her first equipment from a father she never knew. She rarely says no to an opportunity to take pictures around town. Actively involved in the HPTA you can find her pictures throughout the area. …

Dustin Neece is one of many artists whose paintings will be showcases in an empty storefront in the town.
Run (or drive)—do not walk—to the former site of Dress Barn in the Westborough Shopping Plaza off Lyman Street. Displayed in the window are six large-scale oil canvases by Hopkinton's 28-year-old Dustin Neece, who one day may be a famous artist. That's what Ed Turner, owner of the Art and Frame Emporium thinks. Neece already tasted fame. When he was in high school, his painting The Bowler was hung in the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC) when it won the nation’s top student prize (Scholastic Art Award). Some of Neece's art will also be displayed at the Art and Frame Emporium. The exhibit will run through May 24, but may go longer. A small reception was held at the Emporium on Thursday, May 3 to launch this project. Turner said, "…

Dustin Neece is using oil paint to capture the father/son duo's likeness; the painting will be premiered at an Easter Seals event in April.
Since late December, Hopkinton artist Dustin Neece has been working to try to capture the spirit of Rick and Dick Hoyt in the second painting of his “Honoring the Spirit” series. Neece grew up in Hopkinton and has been painting since he received his grandfather’s oil paints as a kid. When he found out the Easter Seals were looking for an artist to commemorate the Hoyts' 30th running of the Boston Marathon, he knew it would be right down his alley. The Hoyts, of Holland, are a father/son duo that has done the marathon for decades, with Dick pushing his wheelchair-bound son, Rick, to the finish line. “The marathon is probably the biggest thing that goes through Hopkinton, so it just felt like a natural fit,” Neece said. “Because they are so …

Find a new piece of art at the Members Art Show.
More than 30 members of the Hopkinton Cultural Arts Alliance—a group of creative people from local communities who have a desire to share their craft—have work displayed at the annual Members Art Show. Kris Waldman is the director for the CAA and said this show is different than others. “It’s not a juried show,” Waldman said. “This year was said that any member could show one piece of their choice and we got a great response.” Normally for an art show, a piece needs to be submitted to a jury that will either approve or reject it, but Waldman said they wanted to allow more freedom for the artists. In the past, the show has been for members of the CAA, but this year they opened it up to a larger group of artists who fall under the Center …

The 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee is looking for community members to design the tricentennial's official logo.
As Hopkinton’s 300th anniversary approaches, the Anniversary Celebration Committee is looking for current and past Hopkinton residents to help design a logo. The committee will consider logos created by both amateur and professional designers. The goal is to “create a logo that captures the spirit and flavor of Hopkinton’s Celebration of its 300th birthday, which will take place in the year 2015,” according to a press release. Organizers are looking for a logo that will reflect the slogan, “Celebrating our past, embracing today and inspiring our future.” All entries must be submitted to the Town Clerk’s office by Dec. 15. A panel of community members will then narrow the field to six entries: three professional and three amateur. The …
