Police Log: High Winds, Fireworks, and Assisting Ashland PD
The following information was supplied by the Hopkinton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
Friday, Jan. 13
5:02 a.m.: An officer checked a motor vehicle parked on Parkwod Drive.
12:17 p.m.: A caller reported that three horses were running down East Main Street. While Hopkinton police were attempting to locate the owners, Ashland police corralled the horses and returned them home.
12:35 p.m.: A caller notified police that two telephone poles fell over on Curtis Road. NStar and Verizon were notified.
1:03 p.m.: A Wood Street resident reported a tarp blowing around in the roadway. An officer removed it.
1:37 p.m.: A motorist told a detail officer that there was a tree down near the corner of Lumber Street and West Main Street. An officer checked the area but was not able to locate the tree.
4:18 p.m.: A caller reported that the same vehicle had been parking in different spots on Pendulum Pass for the past few days. An officer checked the vehicle.
6:16 p.m.: A caller reported having threats to his South Street business.
9:33 p.m.: A caller reported that she hit a deer on Cedar Street. Officers put the deer down and notified Animal Control.
Saturday, Jan 14
12:25 a.m.: A caller reported bright lights shining through her windows on Hayden Rowe Street. An officer checked the area and found it to be secure. The wind was blowing causing the trees to move which may have been causing motion lights to turn on.
10:46 a.m.: A 911 caller reported a deer limping with a broken leg on Maria Lane. Officers were unable to respond because they were all tied up with emergency calls.
11:23 a.m.: There was a car crash on Saddle Hill Road. One car needed to be towed. No injuries were reported.
2:28 p.m.: An officer assisted the Fire Department with an alarm investigation on Hayden Rowe Street.
9:44 p.m.: A caller reported banging on their door, when they went to answer it there was no one there but the neighbors dog was barking. Police responded and found five youths who were banging on doors.
9:43 p.m.: Ashland police called about a shoplifting suspect that was driving to a Hopkinton address. Hopkinton officers waited at the Davis Road address and were standing by with the suspect when Ashland police arrived. The person was taken into custody by Ashland police.
10:36 p.m.: A caller reported a loud bang and flashlights in the woods near Joseph Road. An officer responded but found nothing suspicious.
Sunday, Jan. 15
2:27 a.m.: An officer checked and spoke with a motor vehicle operator on Cranberry Lane. The person was all set.
3:50 a.m.: A caller reported that she was just involved in a crash on Cedar Street and was bleeding. Officers responded with an ambulance. The department of Public Works was notified for black ice. The car was towed but the woman refused medical treatment.
5:04 p.m.: An officer responded to a disabled motor vehicle on East Main Street.
7:38 p.m.: A Frankland Road resident called to report that her homemade ice rink was leaking and causing the road to be icy. An officer checked the area and determined it not to be too bad, but left cones around it anyway.
8:00 p.m.: A caller reported that someone set off a firecracker in their Blueberry Lane yard. An officer checked the area but was unable to find anyone.
9:05 p.m.: A caller heard two loud bangs, possibly fireworks, on Spring Street. An officer checked the area but was unable to find anyone.
9:10 p.m.: An officer checked with a motor vehicle on the side of Wood Street. The driver was looking for the Islamic Center.
