The Columbus Day Tournament, held at the Fruit Street Athletic Complex, was a collaboration between Hopkinton Youth Soccer and the Hopkinton High School soccer program.  180 children preregistered for the event. A leap of 50 over last year.

Evren Gunduz, the Girls Varsity Soccer Coach, m'ceed the free event which was organized as a give back to the town.

“This event is about creating a stronger connection between the youth soccer program and the high school teams.” he said.  “All of our high school teams are involved today. Girls and boys freshman, JV and varsity players are here coaching the 3v3 groups and acting as refs.”

High School liaison, Kevin Normandeau, was on the scene making sure everyone was having a good time and that all the games went off without a hitch.

With each team guaranteed three games; the day was full with the added opportunity to compete in a skills competition. Hair braiding, face painting and soccer tattoos were a big hit with many of the children.

Professional soccer player, Kheli Dube of the New England Revolution, was gracious with his time signing autographs and making himself right at home with the Hopkinton youth and high school players.
